Fun Winter Fitness Ideas For Kids
When it’s cold and icy outside, many people tend to assume that fitness has to go on the back burner. However, just because it’s winter does not mean that you have to stop exercising. This is particularly important if you have children.

Getting kids to be active can be difficult at any time of the year, and it is even harder in winters. Make sure that your kids get off of the couch, put down the remote, and start moving with these great winter fitness ideas.
If you have a hard time convincing your kids that they need to exercise in winters, you may just need to find the right motivation for them. Do not just order them to be active because it’s good for them. Every parent knows how resistant children are to such arguments. You need to find a motivation that really works for them.
Involving the whole family in the activity is the good way to go. After all, if you tell your kids to be active while you stay inside and sit on the couch, they are not going to be impressed. Make exercise a team activity that everyone participates in together.
Exercising in winters does not have to mean spending time outside in the cold. There are many great indoor exercise options that the whole family can enjoy. For example, a local gym or YMCA may offer indoor programs, such as gymnastics, basketball, or swimming.
1. Ice Skating
Learning to ice skate can be fun for kids of all ages. Many cities have indoor and outdoor skating rinks, and they often provide lessons and skate rentals as well. Getting out in the ice is a great way to burn some calories while still having fun.
Sledding is a popular winter activity that can really get your heart racing. Racing down the hill may not burn many calories, but pulling the sled back up to the top of the hill through the snow certainly does. Make sure that your kids do their fair share of the hauling so that they get their hearts racing as well.
3. Snow Shoeing
Snow-shoeing and cross-country skiing are also good ways to be active in the snow. They require more time to learn, but once you do, it’s easy to head outside with your kids and have fun. These are particularly good activities for snow days when the schools are closed.
Of course, you don’t have to leave your house to get some exercise in the winter. Pop your favorite CD in the CD player and dance around the living room with your kids. Play video games that make the kids get up and move. Put an exercise video on the TV and work out with your kids. There are many great ways to be active right at home.
It can be hard to stay active in winters, but doing so is important no matter how old you are. With these ideas, you and your kids can stay fit all winter long.
